Role:

The Africare Nigeria Senior Accountant will assist the Administrative Officer and Country Director in ensuring the successful management and reporting of all Africare Nigeria project funds. S/he will be responsible for organizing and maintaining financial transactions and duties necessary to enable the country office carry out its administrative activities. S/he will be responsible for ensuring proper financial record keeping and error free financial documents and funds expenditure in accordance with Africare and donor accounting policies and requirements. The Finance officer will also be expected to travel to field offices and provide supervisory support to field accountants from time to time

Responsibilities:

?Specifically the Senior Accountant will carry out the following responsibilities:
? Review all budget estimates and bills presented for periodic funds transfer requests from the field offices to determine compliance with Africare policy and availability of funds.
? Review and verify data entry of vouchers? from the field offices for errors and correct as neccessary.
? Prepare checks for signature in accordance with Africare?s policies.
? Maintain positive and productive relations with banking officials.
? Monitor field expenditure as they relate to project budgets.
? Prepare local hire monthly payroll, recording payroll deductions and salaries
? Maintain all financial data,including making backups copies for secure storage
? Prepare travel advances and calculate per-diem for travels.
? Monitor project employee acounts as they relate to field generated activities(travel advances, telecommunications).
? Assist in budget preparation and prepare period funds request to HQ.
? Prepare financial reports to Africare HQ and incountry donors.
? Ensure duplicate batch vouchers are filed,stored and maintained properly.
? Keep track of sick and annual leave used by the Admin staff.
? Report all abnomalities or non compliance with Africare accounting procedures.
? Prepare and reconcile country office batches on biweekly and monthly basis.
? Supervise the book keeper and ensure that? his/her work is accurate, compliant with Africare/donor policies? and meets deadlines.
? Any other duties as may be assigned to him/her by the superiors.

Requirements:

? Bachelors degree in accounting field, HPN or its equivalent? with relevant experience. Professional qualifications such as ICSA, ICAN will added advantage.
? At least 2-3 years experience in budgeting and reporting in development programs.? Experience with international? non Governmental? organizations.
? Demonstrated skills in financial analysis, budgeting, reporting, accounting procedures, auditing and management of human resources.
? Knowledge of Nigerian financial laws, codes, banking proceduees and labor laws.
? Procificiency in word processing, spread sheets, database, presentation, and internet applications,Microsoft office suite highly desired.
? Demonstrated competence to assess priorities and manage a variety of activities to meet deadlines in a time sensitive environment while paying attention to detail and quality.
? Demonstrated knowledge, understanding and experience with Global Fund and US Government funded programs, accounting,regulations and reporting requirements and knowledge of internal accounting controls. Must be financially disciplined with excellent track record in financial management.
? Ability to carry out independent work with initiative, creativity and good judgment without close supervision.
? Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse and clients.
